Reflections on my New Truck
For the first time in many years I bought a vehicle. My oldest has a job and is getting ready to get her license and as such she will need a regular car which means it was time for yours truly to look at what makes sense for me to get. I have been back and forth for years if I wanted a truck or a muscle car. knowing a truck is much more functional and knowing me in a Mustang I would get pulled over more often then I should, hence a truck won out. Since I sell to Ford it only made sense to get a Ford truck. But which one makes the most sense for someone with 4 kids on a tightish budget? I ended up going with a Maverick Hybrid and while it is not as big and many as a F150 or Super Duty it is significantly less expensive both to buy and to operate. I am loving it as it is functional, gets great gas mileage and I enjoy that it drives more like a cross over sized vehicle.
I did initially did reach out to a dealer that typically has really good reviews. They even had the exact Maverick I wanted but the customer service did not impress me. I walked in was greeted half heartly mentioned who my appointment was with and she buzzed him and he came and got me and said the car is outside let me get your paperwork and you can go drive it. It felt like I was an inconvenience for him. But I went and drove the truck and loved it and was ready to purchase on the spot but then another sales person let us know that truck had already been sold and they did not have anther like it in stock. So I walked out very disappointed and once in the car I pulled up Carvana and they had the truck in the color I wanted. so I came home did some calculations, talked to my wife and made the purchase.
I do not get anything form Carvana but I must say the online buying process is super easy they deliver right to my door and allow you 7 days to try the car if you want to return it. They drove me happy and the woman who dropped off my car was so much friendlier even though she was out in the cold with me and had just driven over 2 hours to bring me the truck.
Part of the lesson here is even with all the convivence of online shopping customer service does matter.
Thanks,
Nate
